New York, NY (May 23, 2008) – In response to the recent earthquake tragedy in Sichuan, Chinese Restaurant News  has issued a national appeal to all Chinese restaurants in an effort to raise funds for the earthquake aid. Beginning May 19 thru December 31, Chinese Restaurant News will be organizing fund-raising events at all participating restaurants and donating proceeds to the Sichuan earthquake relief. Donations are being accepted through the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in New York and can be processed by visiting http://www.nyconsulate.prchina.org/eng/xw/t434656.htm.

“We are encouraging Chinese restaurants in the U.S. to unite and come together for this devastating earthquake in Sichuan, China,” said Betty Xie, Editor-in-chief, Chinese Restaurant News. “By combining our efforts with the Chinese restaurant community, we can do our part to help rebuild the shattered dreams and hopes that resulted from the May 12th earthquake.”

Participating restaurants have already begun their efforts. For an entire week all six North American Little Sheep Hot Pot locations donated their lunch sales to the American Red Cross and on May 31, Hunan Imperial restaurant in Evans, CO will be donating 50% of its sales. As of May 21st, Lucky Garden 2 based in Melbourne, Florida has raised over $10,000.  Jimmy Zhao, Owner of Lucky Garden 2 who had currently been in Sichuan before the earthquake occurred has joined the local community in Sichuan to help transport survivors to safe locations.

“We have 43,000 Chinese restaurants in the United States and together we can make a change,” said Byron Huang, Owner of Sichuan Restaurant in Abilene, TX. “We want to encourage people to dine at their neighborhood Chinese restaurant who want to offer their support dedicated to the victims of this disaster. We want to get this message out not only to the local communities, but to every Chinese restaurant in the United States.”
