Top Bay Area Asian Chefs Will Gather Dec. 20 to Kick Off the Festivities

Newark, Calif. (Dec. 10, 2010) –

Chinese Restaurant News (CRN) announces its 7th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Awards show being held at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport Hotel Jan. 8-10, 2011. On December 20, CRN will host a press conference at the Kitchen (Millbrae) to kick off this grand celebration with Celebrity Chef Martin Yan, who will be the honorary host of the award show.

This is the first time this national award ceremony has ever happened in the Bay Area. The theme for this year is The Future of Chinese Dining and Its 150-Year History in America. The 3-day event also features culinary show, food carving & entertainment, and a dine-around-town event in San Francisco, where Chinese cuisine originated in the U.S.

"I'm jolly to be on hand to host the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Awards, as the event has grown to become a tradition of an annual gathering for Chinese restaurant folks in the U.S., since 2004," said Chef Yan, who will host the event with radio cooking show hostess Theresa Lin in January. Co-hosting the show are Felix Chu and Mina Li, San Francisco Bay Area community leaders who have emceed hundreds of charity and community events.

For the first time, the awards show welcomes an international Chinese chef delegation from around the world including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, and the U.S. The participation of San Francisco Bay Area's Asian Chefs Association and culinary schools will turn the event into a platform of international culinary exchange, showcasing the diversity and prosperity of Chinese cuisines.

From suburban buffets to high-end restaurants, Chinese cuisine has become a fixture of the American daily dining scene. On an average day, Americans consume 2.5 million meals prepared in Chinese restaurants. With over $21 billion in annual sales and 45,000 Chinese eateries in the U.S, Chinese food has become part of the American diet.
