CHINESE RESTAURANT NEWS PRESENTS THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE TO MASTER CHEF MARTIN YAN AT THE 5TH ANNUAL TOP 100 CHINESE RESTAURANTS IN THE USA AWARD SHOW IN VEGAS

Fremont, CA (January 6, 2009) – Chinese Restaurant News presented the Lifetime Achievement award to Chef Martin Yan at the 5th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA Awards Show at the Rio All- Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 5, 2009.

The Top 100 Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence recognizes outstanding individuals in the Chinese restaurant industry whose pioneering spirit and demonstrated inventiveness throughout their careers has improved the restaurant industry and inspired others. “Chef Martin Yan is an icon within the Chinese restaurant industry because he paved the way for so many Chinese chefs and restaurateurs by introducing Chinese cuisine to mainstream America,” said Betty Xie, Editor-in-Chief, Chinese Restaurant News. “As a long time friend of Chinese Restaurant News, we are honored to present the well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award to Martin.”

"To be recognized by such a distinguished panel is indeed a great honor,” said Chef Martin Yan. “I just don't know about the 'lifetime' part. Does this mean I have to retire now? Or maybe this will inspire me to work even harder, to get a head start on the next lifetime award.”

In 1978, Yan pioneered the now infamous “Yan Can Cook” television cooking show which now airs internationally in over 50 countries. A celebrated cooking show host, restaurateur, food consultant, cooking instructor, prolific author, and an American Culinary Federation certified Master Chef, Yan will be the first recipient of Chinese Restaurants News Lifetime Achievement Award.

Organized by Chinese Restaurant News, the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in USA award show is a national event which aims to present the very best of Chinese cuisine which has become a part of America's daily dining scene. “百佳终身成就奖”旨在表彰那些在中餐行业不断开拓创新、奋力进取,用自己的先锋精神鼓舞他人,并推动行业发展,为中餐事业做出卓越贡献的个人。《中餐通讯》主编 Betty Xie表示:“甄文达大师是所有中餐业同仁的偶像,他开创先河,将中餐引入主流,为众多在美中餐厨师和餐馆老板的发展铺平了道路。同时,他是《中餐通讯》的挚友,能把‘终身成就奖’这一至高荣誉颁发给他也是我们的荣幸。”

甄文达大师打趣地说:“获得《中餐通讯》的表彰让我倍感荣幸。不过,我对‘终身’二字却有少许困惑。不知它是否在暗示我立马退休?又或,它是想鞭策我继续前进,为获得下一个‘终身成就奖’赢得先机,打开一个全新的局面。”

1978 年,甄大师参加了中餐烹饪秀电视节目《甄能煮》(Yan Can Cook )的录制。如今,该节目名满天下,被全球50多个国家争相转播。甄大师是著名烹饪秀节目主持人、餐饮企业家、美食顾问、厨艺教师、高产作家,获美国烹饪协会(American Culinary Federation)认证,是荣获《中餐通讯》终身成就奖的第一人。
