ASIAN CHEFS ASSOCIATION CO-FOUNDERS LAWRENCE C.C. CHU & KHAI DUONG RECEIVE COMMUNITY AWARD OF EXCELLENCE AT THE 5th ANNUAL TOP 100 CHINESE RESTAURANTS IN THE USA AWARDS SHOW

Fremont, CA (January 6, 2009) – Chinese Restaurant News awarded the Asian Chefs Association (ACA) with a Community Award of Excellence at the 5th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA Awards Show and Conference at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino on January 5, 2009.?ACA co-founders Chef Lawrence Chu, Owner, Chef Chu’s and Chef Khai Duong, Executive Chef, Ana Mandara accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

The Community Award of Excellence is given to a Chinese restaurateur or organization in the Chinese restaurant industry that uses their culinary expertise and their business to give back to the community in a philanthropic manner. ACA was chosen as the first recipient of this award for their charitable work in the community such as their annual Christmas Food Drive, which serves over 1,500 gourmet Chinese meals to the needy and homeless in the San Francisco Bay Area. ACA was also recognized for the work they do with their foundation, “Chefs Without Borders”, which raises awareness and funds for anti-human trafficking and brings short and long term relief to children in need across Asia.

“We are so grateful to be the recipient of the Community Award of Excellence for our charitable contribution to the Asian international community,” said Chef Lawrence Chu. “To be recognized by Chinese Restaurant News, a vital voice for food professionals, is truly an honor.”

The ACA was formed in 2002 to provide Asian chefs with a forum to share ideas and promote Asian and Pan-Asian Cuisines. The ACA promotes the art of Asian-Inspired cuisine with its innovative Taste of Asia dinner series, a fresh and creative way to sample the diversity of ACA culinary delights. 2009年1月5日,第五届“中餐百佳”颁奖典礼在拉斯维加斯Rio All-Suite酒店盛大举行。会上,主办方《中餐通讯》将“社区贡献奖”这一荣誉颁给了亚洲厨师协会(Asian Chefs Association)。协会共同创办人,Chef Chu’s餐厅东主Lawrence C.C. Chu与Ana Mandara行政总厨Khai Duong代表协会接受了表彰。

“社区贡献奖”旨在表彰那些乐善好施、凭借自身能力向社会做出无私奉献的中餐馆老板或机构。亚洲厨师协会是第一个获得该表彰的机构。他们所举办的圣诞食物银行(Christmas Food Drive)共为旧金山湾区的无家可归者和有需要人士烹制了逾3,000 份午餐和晚餐。同时,他们所筹办的厨师无国界(Chefs Without Borders)基金会,在反对贩卖人口、救济亚洲儿童方面做出了卓越贡献,深受大家拥戴。
