-- Helen's Gourmet has won a couple of awards from Chinese Restaurant News, a trade
publication that organizes a yearly contest for the best Chinese restaurants in the country.
Helen's, located at the northeast corner of Fresno Street and Alluvial Avenue, scored spots in the "Top 100 Overall Excellence Winners" list and the "Top 100 Healthy Menus."
The wins earned the restaurant a trophy at an awards ceremony in Las Vegas last week,
says Helen's co-owner Larry Tsou.
"We were surprised" by the awards, Tsou says.
Winners were chosen based on evaluations from AboutFace, a secret shopping company in
Gainesville, Ga.; feedback from editors of Chinese Restaurant News; and diners' votes.
Since the evaluations and votes were anonymous, Helen's owners had no idea that their
take on Sichuan and Mandarin cuisines was being judged.
Earning the awards means Helen's will be featured in the "Top 100 Chinese Restaurants"
dining guide.
