For the third year in a row, Melbourne's Lucky Garden 1 has earned a spot as one of the top 100 Chinese Takeout Restaurants in the nation.

The honor is a very nice way for Lucky Garden 1 owner Qin Weng to start off the Year of the Ox, which began this past Monday.

It is also a great thing to know for the rest of us because Super Bowl, with all its take-out must-dos, is a mere three days away.

The awards, presented by Chinese Restaurant News, represent the cream of the crop of the $20 billion U.S. Chinese restaurant industry.

Owner Qin Weng received his trophy during a ceremony held Jan. 5 at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Hosting the event were Asian cuisine author/instructor/restaurateur Martin Yan and
food maven Theresa Lin, nicknamed the "Julia Child of Taiwan" by director Ang Lee.

With more than 45,000 Chinese restaurants in the United States, a total which is more than all McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's stores combined, the Space Coast is blessed with yet more
winners in Asian cuisine. More on those next week.

In the meantime, you might want to think Chinese for Super Bowl. Lucky Garden 1 is located at Melbourne Village Plaza, 1270 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne. Phone is 259-5688.

Also on the ball

Chef Pascal Beaute will be just a tad busy cooking for Super Bowl XLIII this weekend, but after the game, the former owner of Pascal's Downtown Bistro in Titusville may have some news for his fans in Brevard.

Beaute is thinking of hosting wine tasting events at his new Tampa Convention Center digs and providing Space Coast foodies with a great excuse to spend a weekend on the west coast.

One more on the Bowl

Mr. Tony's in Palm Bay will be featuring a free buffet Super Bowl Sunday.

On Friday, Mr. Tony's, which bills itself as Brevard's Best Kept Secret, will also host a biker bash as a preview to the Biker Coalition's Orlando ride on Saturday.

The coalition is hosting the ride as a statewide fundraiser to help downed bikers. Doc Holliday will be at the Friday bash, as will some hot bikes and cars.

Mr. Tony's is located at 1549 Palm Bay Road, Palm Bay. Phone is 409-4595.
