China Inn restaurant honored for signature dish

Chinese Restaurant News (CRN) has honored a Warwick restaurant for having one of the “Top 100 Signature Asian Dishes” in the country. It was the only Chinese restaurant in the state to receive this honor.
The China Inn at 2790 Post Rd. is being praised for its special Chow Mei Fun and homemade dumplings.
Honorees are nominated by CRN and then restaurant customers cast votes on the CRN Web site to support their favorites. CRN is the first of its kind and is now the largest monthly publication serving Chinese-American restaurants.
“Chow Mei Fun” is a spicy dish consisting of shrimp, vegetables and thin noodles. The dish is traditional in South China near Taiwan, where Amy Weng hails from.
The Wengs came to the United States about 20 years ago and lived and worked in New Jersey before moving to Rhode Island and opening the China Inn in 2006.
Despite being so far from home, the Wengs have family all around them. Weng runs the business with her husband, whose family runs a successful restaurant in Cranston.
Weng has also developed a type of family through her loyal customers; which is carrying the Inn through the recent trying economic times.
“Customers keep coming back. A lot of people tell me their business is going down but we’re still doing fine, just like before. We’re looking for space in another part of Warwick,” said Weng.
