Monday night was like the Oscars for the Chinese Restaurant industry in San Francisco as the best of the best were honored at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Airport SanFrancisco hosted by Chinese Chef Martin Yan. He says if "Yan Can, You Can." He means cook.

This is the first time that the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Awards, now in their 7th year, were presented in the Bay Area. The location is fitting since the first Chinese restaurant in the US was opened in San Francisco Dec. 10, 1849 called "Canton."

Chinese food consumption in the U.S. might surprise you with the Chinese Restaurant News reporting that on an average day Americans consume 2.5 meals prepared in Chinese restaurants with over $21 billion in annual Chinese restaurant US sales at more than 45,000 restaurants in the U.S.

The most widely used Chinese herbs are ginger, ginsing, and wild berries. There has been a big increase in the popularity of the Dim Sum dish called Cha SIU Bao which has dumplings, lettuce wrap with chicken, and steamed bun.

We'll bring you the Chinese restaurant report as it pertains to the Las Vegas market as soon as its available so you know how our restaurants rated.
